SWOT

STRENGTHS
1) Curricular Aspects - The Department of Vocation (B.Voc) ensures effective curriculum delivery through a well planned and documented process.

2) Teaching-learning and Evaluation Student centric methods for advanced learners and slow learners group brainstorming sessions , Continuous internal evaluation , One-to-one interaction .

3) Research, Innovations and Extension Pankaj Ojha, alumnus of the B.Voc (SD,2016-19 BATCH), is currently working as research assistant on the project titled “Indo- Nepal Border Road Project”, with the Wildlife see more..

WEAKNESS
1) Lack of workforce - It is a challenge to balance the increasing co-curricular and administrative responsibilities, along with mandatory academic commitments.

2) Issue with Class Timings: Sometimes the arrangement of timings of Guest Teachers/Industry Experts becomes an issue/problem.

3) Collaborated marksheets and degree.

OPPORTUNITIES
1) Scope for new courses: We have been granted two additional courses viz a viz Advertising and Digital Marketing, Animation and VFX. These courses have a huge demand in the industry thereby encouraging the students to pursue them.

2) Actual Infusion of academia with industry: BFSI and NASSCOM are the government run institutions deciding the standards prevalent in the respective industries.

3) MOUs can be signed with industries to facilitate the conduct of short term and executive courses for the holistic dev of students. see more..

THREATS
1) Lack of awareness amongst the students and corporates: Since the B.Voc course is a newly launched degree program, hence students as well as corporates are unfamiliar with it. Since not much awareness is created about this course, not many companies recruit the students for internships and placements. This might lead to closure/shut down of this course in the long run.

2) Challenging administrative work: Coordinating with the Guest Faculty teachers for administrative task or organizing an event is quite challenging.

3) Correction of certificates issued from NASSCOM and BFSI end: Inspite of providing the students details to the NASSCOM authorities repeatedly, there is either an error in the students name or in their father’s name. This is making the distribution of certificates a time consuming process.

Thrusts & Best Practices

Thrust

The major thrust/focus areas of our Department for the upcoming academic session will be on the following:
1) Increasing Employability for the students: To make the internship/placement process more effective on both ways i.e. students need to be encouraged to appear for more and more companies and vice-versa. Also, more and better companies should be approached and invited in the college.

2) Create awareness through promotions: As explained earlier, it is imperative to promote the B.Voc course so that more and more students become a part of it and obtain the best out of this skill-oriented course.

Best Practices

1. Our Department inculcates and encourages peer to peer learning i.e. students teaching other students. Celect, the placement cell of B.Voc Software Development, has launched a series of workshops under the name of ‘Anveshan’ . In these workshops a student being a contemporary of other students is the speaker who gives a session on a topic that is not a part of the curriculum per se but is in demand in the industry. Through this practice, our department is giving the students an exposure of latest technologies through community building.

2. Our Department has organized several seminars and workshops for students on Career Guidance and Opportunities in the industry that will make them aware of the possible career paths that they can tread upon after obtaining B.Voc degree. Since the vocational courses are newly launched and not much awareness is there in the academia and industry about such courses, hence it becomes all the more necessary to conduct such events on a routine basis.

3. Since the B.Voc courses are skill oriented courses, special attention is given to students’ internships. Internships opportunities are extended by of our department faculty members who teach a Skill Enhancement Component (SEC) to students. Mr. Kaushik Bhaduri is primarily a banker and is the founder of an Investment Firm. Under his mentorship, there are a couple of students who have completed their internships in his own firm. Antha Prerna Cell (APC) is a cell functioning in Ramanujan College which also hires students as trainees for various job roles like Software Developer and Web Developer. Research Development and Services Cell, Ramanujan College, also provides plethora of internship opportunities to students. Some of our students are working as interns under this cell since the year 2020. Through such initiatives, our students are being given the right exposure which will ultimately help them in the long run when they work in the environment of a multinational company.
